I’m Nat Guild. I founded Apex Equity Research LLC in 2011 and serves as its President. I provide investment research to financial institutions, fund managers and other fiduciaries, and its reports to identify and analyze risk factors for a wide variety of US equities. I am an expert in the critical analysis of competitive business strategies. I also have extensive experience translating complex market events into reports for individuals who manage their own portfolio or take an active role in their managed portfolio relationship.

In May 2025, I launched a semi-monthly investment newsletter, Market Risks, to help investment advisors and individual investors focus on the most important information for long-term investment decisions. Market Risks cuts through the endless barrage of noise from Wall Street bloggers, analysts and financial media to consolidate financial market data and geo-political events into concise, understandable content that is essential to managing long-term investments. Importantly, with Market Risks, I take a long-term view whereas most analysts focus on short-term events, which might be helpful to day traders seeking a quick buck. The goal is to save long-term investors hours of cumbersome research, circular arguments, and potential confusion to ultimately help lower their investment risk.

I’ve spent most of my career providing in-depth investment analysis across a broad range of topics for institutional clients, including some of the largest and most well-known mutual and hedge funds. Prior to founding Apex, I was co-founder and president of Short Alert, a short-only research firm that produced both general release and client specific financial reports. Barron’s recognized my work in a cover story (July 6, 2009), which documented a market outperformance of +28.1% per year for ten years. In addition to Barron’s, I have appeared in other respected financial journals Fortune, Smart Money and the Wall Street Journal.

My work was also the subject of a research paper by professors at Southern Methodist University that found my work produced exceptional returns over a seven-year period from 1998 through 2005.

More recently, in 2026, I appeared on the Registered Investment Advisor Podcast (sometimes labeled The RIA Podcast), hosted by Seth Greene. We discussed one of the most overlooked risks in modern portfolio building: hidden concentration risk. I also explained why safeguarding against losses, rather than simply pursuing gains, is the real secret to long-term investing success. The podcast is available on Amazon Music, Apple podcasts, iHeartRadio, Spotify, TuneIn, and YouTube.

I received a Masters in Management from the Sloan School at M.I.T., where I graduated from a two-year program in 12 months with a perfect GPA. I received my undergraduate degree in Biology from Harvard College. I am a past member of the Kennedy Institute of Politics Advisory Committee, and in 2008, I accepted the Harvard Alumni Association award for outstanding contributions to the University. On a personal note, I was a member of the American Association of Editorial Cartoonists, a Massachusetts schoolboy champion in the two-mile run, and am the very proud father of two adult sons.
